Deeply Misunderstood Skeletons (wind quintet)
Deeply Misunderstood Skeletons (wind quintet)
Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in B-flat, Horn in F, and Bassoon
Duration: c. 6’
Program note:
My dear friend and horn player, Nikki, wanted to commission a wind quintet from me that featured the horn. I struggled finding inspiration for such a quintet so the due date got pushed back a few times. Eventually it landed on Halloween and we started talking about scary, spooky skeletons. Nikki’s reply was, “You mean deeply misunderstood skeletons who only want to be loved in spite of the necromancy that enables them to move without muscles or tendons.” That was obviously what the piece had to be about, so all I had to figure out was what that sounds like.
