Program Notes:

Legends of the Hidden Temple is a piece based on the similarly-titled game show on air in the early 1990’s. It is presented in four movements, which correlate to the four rounds contestants participate in. There are six teams, each represented with a leitmotif: Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots, and Silver Snakes. The first round is the moat, in which the six teams must traverse the moat, though only four teams advance. The second round is the steps of knowledge, where Olmec tells the legend of the artifact being pursued, and the contestants answer questions about this legend. This narrows the field to two teams. The third round is the temple games, in which the teams compete for pendants of life, which will protect them in the final round. The team with the most pendants proceeds to the final round, the temple run. This is a race against the clock to complete challenges along the path to the artifact.
